Roger Deakins is a cinematographer, and frankly he is probably the most lauded; a critically and fan acclaimed cinematographer. Roger Deakins' work is out-of-this-world brilliant. If one were to attempt counting the number of great films he's been a apart of you'd have to use more than just your fingers and toes.

The images above are stills of some stunning films Deakins has had a hand in, all of which are personal favourites of mine. The Coen Brothers use Deakins almost exclusively and I believe his work is a major contributing factor as to what make the Coen Brothers stand out.

The sweeping panoramic views in 'No Country For Old Men' brought forward the idea of the isolation and emptiness the location really was, which contrasts with the mounds and mounds of landfill that dominated scenes in 'Wall.E' but still being able to convey that sense of emptiness. Though I suppose I should point out that Deakins was only a Visual Consultant on 'Wall.E', but it doesn't stop it from being the most beautifully animated film Pixar's ever made.

Also I have to say about that 'True Grit' image, in the film this actually was pretty scary, because at first look it looked like a bear was riding the horse.

Hit up Roger Deakins' IMDB to see what films he's been a part of: here.

Unfortunately that site didn't have 'True Grit' so here's what Google has to offer: here.
